Quality Edge—with a West Michigan location—is one of America’s largest manufacturers of metal roofing accessories and exterior building products. These products include siding, fascia, roof flashings, and much more.
The Problem:
The team at Quality Edge reached out to HEL about their 1980s slitter machine. When working properly, it accurately processes a large coil of aluminum into strips of various widths.
However, bearings were starting to fail—and the machine hadn’t been worked on in about 15 years.
As our team began replacing the bearings, we found much more significant damage. We shifted direction and utilized our rigging capacity to bring the machine into our shop.
HEL’s Solution:
Once in our workshop, we were able to fully diagnose all the mechanical issues. The team at Quality Edge readily approved the increased scope of the project, knowing our work would prevent them from more production stoppages in the near future.
Our specialists replaced the bearings and bushings. Using our internal machine shop, we fabricated new shafts and welded worn mechanical surfaces.
From start to finish—even with the additional fabrications—the project took only six days.
