The Problem
Digital Tool & Die reached out to our team at HEL when they experienced slow reaction times with the combination clutch brake unit on their Blow Press. They had been told that the friction pads needed to be replaced and the drive plates were glazed over.
But the machine isn’t old enough to be experiencing the problems they were having, so we were curious.
HEL’s Solution
Using our rigging capabilities, we rigged the clutch-brake assembly and disassembled it to perform a full inspection. And we quickly realized there was nothing wrong with the friction plates.
Instead, a pair of O-Rings had been glued in place with an inappropriate type of glue and we discovered an undiagnosed air leak.
We sourced new O-Rings, put everything back together, verified all clearances, and re-installed the clutch-brake. The machine has never run quieter!
This project fell within our quoted scope of work—a 4 day turnaround.
And it demonstrates the benefits you’ll receive when working with HEL: all your rigging, repair, and machining work is done by just one provider!
“We continually reach out to HEL for projects because of their high quality of work and their fast response time. Now, the clutch brake unit works great and the press is quiet,” said Kyle Hardin of Digital Tool and Die.
